What to do with your hangover
Good.is has some excellent tips for those kind of mornings after a night of heavy drinking. (it happens to the best of us) http://m.good.is/post/10-healthy-ways-to-help-a-hangover/
Pasta al horno. Vegetables are so much more tasty if you make them separately from the sause and put them in the oven. This pasta rocks tomato, bacon, zucchini, black olives and some olive oil and balsamic from the oven with a tomato, onion and ricotta sauce made separately. The whole thing topped with some freshly grated parmesan (of course).
A little quick tip for in the kitchen I picked up in South America. If you don’t have lemon squeezer at hand (note: those things are amazingly useful though) a good old fork will suffice!
I ate this strawberry cheese cake (we call it mon chou pie here in Holland, but I’m not sure if that’s just us…) a couple of weeks ago. But somehow ever since that afternoon this pie has been on my mind. How did they get it so perfectly smooth, it almost felt like it was melting in your mouth. Not at all like the normal more solid pies. Mmm damn, this is making me craving this pie again. I so need to find out how this works… Maybe add regular cream?
Breakfast never has been my strong suit. I am the absolute oposite of being a morning person, and when I do get myself out of bed don’t expect any world changing ideas (or really just any kind of talk). And then to actually eat something in the morning… sigh…
But as we all know, breakfast is good for you. It is one of those very few things all the experts actually seem to agree on. And every once in a while I’ll try to make a real effort to make breakfast into a healthy habit. Sooo, when I saw the absolutely beautiful packaging of Dorset Cereal it was a done deal. (It probably has been on the market a while, but it is new in my Dutch supermarket :)) Design + natural + great taste. I’m sold.
(Update: And just bought my second pack today, so jeeh! This might be a keeper)
I adore figs, in any form of shape really. But in this salad the pure amazing taste of the fig gets all the attention it deserves! And heavenly in combination with the salty taste of the feta cheese.
Salad made by my mum!
Made a delicious pasta with rucola, roasted pine nuts and tomatos, steak and a tasty sauce that (unfortunately?) turned pink, made of ricotta and red wine. I love this combination, however I’m not so sure about the colour. Is the pink to much for this pasta? Mmm, what do you guys think?
(Sorry about the quality of the photo, made with my iphone)
Healthy snacking! I am spending so much time behind my computer these days that I need to find ways to compensate. Of course, work out would be good too. But that really isn’t one of my favorite options. Which of course, I feel really guilty about, but not quite guilty enough to make a change yet.
So for now, my body has to do it with healthy food, like this yoghurt with blueberries, red currants, some fibers and … some ehm- coconut shavings. (Do you call it that?) I love coconut and just a tiny bit makes all the differens to me.
Time for another visual recipe! This is one of my favorite Colombian dishes. Plantains (patacones) are served with many dishes and in many shapes and sizes. But this recipe follows the steps to make the base for one of my favorite ‘snack foods’ where they serve them with chicken, cheese and pink sause on top.
(Keep in mind though, you need a loooooot of oil, maybe a whole bottle to cover about 4 or 5 plantains. And eh- yes, this is not healthy food. But tasty yes. Very tasty.)
Busy days! Lot’s of work is still lying around for me to get done, so no time for fun cooking. However I do firmly believe that no good work can be done with out a good base. Soo, quick, but delicious. And, in good Bricolage-fashion, only with ingredients I had lying around. Couscous salad with falafel, cucumber, tomato and mint, together with a strawberry juice and fresh mint tea. Great lunch in 10 minutes!
